Outdoor Fairy Lights – Black Cable

We previously had pretty standard outdoor string lights lining the branches of a frangipani in our front yard. It looked great, but over time they died as they were not up for heavy rain.

I was searching for IP67 fairy lights and found these ones from Festoon House. There is some confusion, as the listing on the website says IP65 in some places and IP67 in others, but I reached out to customer service and they confirmed IP67. Looking at the build quality (rubber coating on the cables, gaskets in the connections), I suspect they are actually IP67, which is great and what I need.

I ordered 40m in 10m lengths, and really like that they can interconnect. As the tree grows, I can slot in additional 3m lengths where required, rather than having to re-string the whole tree.

I bought the black cable, which looks fine during the day – although the cables are thicker than those on the original fairy lights that we had, that died. It may not be to everyone’s taste, but if the extra waterproofing holds up, then in my view it’s worth it. I also bought the very warm white version. This is a tree that is there for show, rather than wanting to use the light to light an area where we’ll sit with friends. If I was using these lights for ambient lighting in an area where we sit with friends, I probably would go the warm white (more yellow) than very warm white (more orange).

I have just bought the dimmer – hasn’t arrived yet. But, I’m interested to see how that goes. The listing notes 8 dynamic effects, ,so I assume this might be something like flashing or whatever. I don’t know, the details on the website are a bit sparse.

Our neighbours have really come to enjoy us having lights on our frangipani, and were a bit sad when the old lights gradually died. They have been very enthusiastic about these new lights, so it’s very nice to get that reaction.

It’s too early to know if the waterproofing will hold up, but I am optimistic given the build quality.

I ordered 5 x 10m strands plus 5 x 5m extension cables with a 5 point joiner and this made installation easier although they can be joined into a single strand if preferred. Cabling is good quality as is waterproof connections and transformer. Led lights (warm) are clear and bright and a little larger than the cheaper sets I’ve bought in the past. very happy I went with this product.

Lovely ambience

Ordered 50m of fairy lights on the Tuesday and they were delivered on Friday. Speedy service. As soon as I opened the box I knew these lights were of commercial grade and will certainly long outlast the Bunnings rubbish you buy at this time of year. They had a Black Friday sale just when I was thinking of purchasing so managed an extra 30% off. Bargain. Installing them was a breeze and the deck looks absolutely stunning at night. Good quality and easy to DIY.

After years of using cheap fairy lights (which didn’t last long) I decided to use these commercial powered lights. The build is robust and top quality. They were delivered on time and very easy to install. The light is gentle and ideal for relaxed entertaining. They have made a huge improvement to my outdoor entertaining area.
